Yalta embankment is one of the main attractions of the resort, where thousands of tourists walk and relax every evening. There are many restaurants and cafes, as well as other places for entertainment. The embankment begins near Lenin Square and stretches for 1.7 kilometers to Seaside Park, although the busiest part of the embankment is shorter: from Lenin Square to the Oreanda Hotel (1 km).
The Yalta embankment was formed as a promenade only at the beginning of the 20th century. Before that, Yalta was located to the north, between Polikurovsky Hill and Derekoyka. Where thousands of people walk today, in the middle of the 19th century there was a deserted seashore. With the construction of palaces and villas in the vicinity of the city, the Yalta Embankment began to be actively built up and turned into a center of social life.
Nowadays Yalta Embankment has two levels. As in Soviet times, it is called Lenin Embankment and there is a monument to him on the square. The lower level of Yalta was created as a promenade for walking near the seashore. Restaurants and cafes are located in a continuous line on the upper level of the embankment. Many houses on the embankment have been preserved since the beginning of the 20th century.
To create a resort atmosphere, a large number of plants have been planted along the Yalta Embankment, as well as park areas have been created. Southern trees grow here: palm trees, magnolias, cypresses. In many places you can see beautiful flower beds with flowers.
Also, several giant plane trees grow in different places on the Yalta Embankment. They were planted in the 19th century and today have reached huge sizes. The highest plane tree on the Yalta Embankment is called the Isadora Duncan Plane Tree. The famous Russian poet Sergei Yesenin and his wife Isadora Duncan often rested under it when they came to Yalta.
In the evening, many artists gather on the embankment, who create a festive atmosphere. Thus Yalta has become the most fashionable resort in Crimea. If you are vacationing outside of Yalta, then you should come here at least for one evening.
