The Yeysk Spit is located on the southern side of the Taganrog Bay. It extends 3 kilometers into the sea. At the very edge of this spit, there is a beach area on both sides. The beaches on the Yeysk Spit are covered with sand and seashell.

In the 19th century, the Yeysk spit was much longer. The port of Yeysk was founded in 1848. From it, a long sand spit stretched for 6 kilometers, which almost completely blocked the entrance to the Yeysk estuary from the Sea of Azov. At the beginning of the 20th century, industrial extraction of shell rock began here. This violated the integrity of the spit and hurricanes destroyed it. The base of the narrow spit was washed away. Now its length from the port is only 1.3 kilometers.

3 kilometers from the shore is the Island of Yeysk Spit. It is also called Green Island or Bird Island. In the past, this island was part of the (northern edge) Yeysk Spit.  Now catamarans and boats sail from Yeysk to the island. Tourists can visit the island with excursions.

Seashell beaches are located on both sides of the Yeysk Spit, but people mostly swim on the beaches from the Sea of Azov side. The Central Beach is the largest in Yeysk. Due to mud volcanoes, which are numerous on the Taman Peninsula and on the eastern shore of the Sea of Azov, the color of the water here has a light brown color. In the Sea of Azov, this color is not so noticeable, and in the estuary, due to the too shallow bottom, the brown color of the water is very noticeable. The main advantage of the estuary is that there are no waves, even if wind is strong. This allows beginners to learn and practice windsurfing and kitesurfing skills.

In recent years, many hotels and guest houses have been built on the Yeysk Spit, many of them with swimming pools. There are no private houses of local residents on the Yeysk Spit. Some hotels offer ordinary family holidays, but youth hotels that specialize in water sports are especially popular.

One of the most famous hotels in this area is the Academy of Water Sports. During the day, its guests engage in various sports: windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUPsurfing and others. In the evening, parties are held on the beaches of the Yeysk Spit and in hotels.
