Zelenogradsk water tower is one of the most remarkable buildings in the resort of Cranz, preserved from the times of East Prussia. It was built in 1904 to improve the water supply to Cranz, which had become a very popular resort.
The tower is 40 meters high. During the World War II, the tower was not damaged, but the water supply communications fell into disrepair. In 1946, there was an attempt to repair them, but the new pipes could not withstand the water pressure. After that, the tower was abandoned for several decades.
Today, the tower is privately owned and used as an art object. At the top of the tower, there is an observation deck, where you can view the Transfiguration Cathedral and the tiled roofs of the old town. You can also see the woodlands of the Curonian spit from here.
The Murarium Cat Museum is located on the first floor of the tower. A hotel, restaurant, entertainment center and two other museums are built nearby: the House of Angels Museum and the Museum of Skeletons and skulls.
