The Aktry Mountaineering camp was founded in the valley of the Aktry River at the foot of Mount Karatash at an altitude of 2150 m above sea level. It was founded by the famous glacier researcher Mikhail Tronov in 1936.
At first, there were seasonal houses for employees of Tomsk University who were engaged in glaciology. Over time, guesthouses appeared here, where tourists can stay. There are two baths in the camp. Below in the river valley there are many places where you can set up a tent.
The Aktry Mountaineering camp is located in the middle of a grove of relict cedars near a small lake of Sachki. This lake is filled with crystal clear water from mountain springs. The first three-storey building was built on its shore, where the employees of Tomsk University lived.
Over time, ascents of the Aktru Glaciers have become very popular among Russian climbers, as there are many high mountains and glaciers concentrated here in a small area. There are many interesting routes of various difficulty categories here.
There is no infrastructure for entertainment or sports in the Camp itself. People come here for the sake of climbing mountain routes. Everyone can take mountaineering courses at the Aktry camp. After that, they get access to the categorical routes.
For untrained tourists, the only possible route is to climb to the Blue Lake (2823 m) along the Big Aktry and Small Aktry Glaciers. The route is 5.2 km long. The climb is 720 meters.
In the Aktry Mountaineering camp, you can climb the slope of Mount Kyzyltash to the observation deck of Via Ferrata, as well as walk to the waterfall at the Dome of Three Lakes mountain. These are short routes, but they pass through very picturesque places.
