    Assumption cathedral in Rostov

    The Rostov Assumption cathedral is the fourth cathedral built on the site. The first wooden cathedral was laid down there under Prince Vladimir in 991, only three years after the Christianization of Rus`. So, it was one of the oldest cathedrals in the Rus`. An infant Bartholomew, the son of a Rostov boyar Cyril, was baptized in the Assumption cathedral of Rostov in 1314. It was the future Russian saint Sergius of Radonezh.
