The Balaklava embankment is located on the left side of the bay, sandwiched among the mountain slopes.  The cozy atmosphere of Balaklava gives the impression that you are not in the Crimea, but in a small Greek or Italian resort. Yachts and boats are moored along the embankment, and fish restaurants are open in houses whose facades overlook the embankment.

The city of Balaklava is located in a narrow bay, its winding entrance from the sea is protected by mountains. On the right side of the bay is the Tavrichesky Embankment, and on the left bank is the Nazukin Embankment. The Tavrichesky Embankment runs at the foot of Mount Tavros. There are several buildings on this side, but the mountain comes too close to the water. In the thickness of the mountain in Soviet times, a secret facility 825 GTS was created, which was a submarine base. Now one of the most interesting museums of the Crimea is located here – the Balaklava Submarine Museum.

On the right side, the mountains are located far from the coast, so the main urban development is located here. The length of the Nazukin Embankment is 500 meters, and the busiest part of the embankment (250 meters) is located opposite the Balaklava Marina. Throughout this part of the embankment there are restaurants and cafes, souvenir shops and other resort infrastructure that makes the city look like the resorts of the Mediterranean Sea.

Each restaurant on the Balaklava Embankment serves dishes from local fish. Many tourists specially come to Balaklava to eat dishes of fresh fish, which fishermen bring here every day. Dozens of fishermen are fishing directly on the Balaklava embankment. Not only small surmullet or horse mackerel enter Balaklava Bay, but also different types of mullet. Fishermen usually deliver part of the catch to restaurants.

Near the Rodina cinema, the recreational part of the Balaklava embankment ends. But you can walk on. Behind a large building that belonged to the Soviet Navy, there are dachas built in the early 20th century. The Genoese Fortress Chembalo rises above them. Here the trail begins, where you can walk to the Silver or Gold Beaches.
