Foros resort is located on the southernmost point of the Crimean peninsula. It is a very famous beach resort. The Crimean mountains in Foros approach directly to the sea, and this creates a very warm climate. Sea currents converge in the Foros area near Cape Sarych, so the water in the Foros area is recognized as one of the cleanest in the Crimea.
Most of the village of Foros is occupied by Foros Park. Its territory is 70 hectares. Foros Park is called one of the best landscape parks of the Crimea, the same as the Nikitsky Botanical Garden in Yalta or Vorontsov Park in Alupka. This park was founded in 1834 by the Rayevsky, descendants of the famous General Nikolay Rayevsky, hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, who led the defense of the Rayevsky Battery on the Borodino battlefield. However, the greatest contribution to the creation of a valuable collection of trees and plants of the Foros Park was made by Alexander Kuznetsov, who bought the Raevsky estate in Foros in 1887.
In the Village of Foros there are three well-maintained beaches: Pink, Green, as well as a fairly long beach of 500 meters, which is divided into two sections: Quiet Bay and Helipad. There are three more beaches in Foros Park. Near one of them, on a stone in the sea, you can see a sculpture of a man made of cast iron. It used to stand at the bus station, but then it was moved to Foros Beach. This figure is called "Alyosha" or "Iron Man".
Other attractions are located outside of Foros. It is impossible to reach them on foot. While spending a vacation in Foros, you need to plan trips to the Baydar Pass. There you will see the Baydar Gate and the Foros Church. It offers very beautiful views of the Crimean mountains and the sea.
The Foros Church on the rocky cliff of the Red Mountain was built by Alexander Kuznetsov in 1892. It rises above Foros at an altitude of 412 meters. Foros Church of the Resurrection of Christ has become a symbol of the resort. It is located near the Baydar Pass, which runs between the mountains Chelebi (657 m) and Chhu-Bair (705 m). The height of the Baidvar pass itself is 503 m. Near the Baydar gate there is a well-known restaurant Hut.
On the south side of the Baydar Pass is Mount Celebi. Its rocky spur, which is called Foros, hangs over the village of Foros. At this point, the Crimean mountains approach the seashore most closely. There is a hiking trail from Mount Celebi, where you can start hiking to the Temple of the Sun at Mount Ilyas-Kaya. The total length of this route is 6.5 kilometers. The path runs along the edge of the Crimean Mountains, which offer beautiful views of the mountains and the sea. This path is part of the hiking route "Between the sky and the sea".
The route from the Baydar Gate to the Temple of the Sun can be completed in 1 day, but it is better to plan an overnight stay in a tent. This will allow you to slowly visit the most beautiful places of the Baydar Valley and the southern Crimean mountains. If you are not ready to go on a walking route, then you need to visit the Baydar Gate and the Temple of the Sun at different times. To get to the path that leads to the Temple of the Sun, you need to drive along the South Coast highway to the turn to Laspi (9 km from Foros). From here you need to go to the mountains along the path. The distance from the highway to the Temple of the Sun is 2.4 km. On the way from Foros to the Temple of the Sun, you can make a stop near the Parus Rock and the Chaos stone blockage. This is an ancient collapse of one of the slopes of Mount Celebi. It is 2 km from Foros.
