The Karaev Garden is located in the Old Town of Yevpatoria near the Juma-Jami Mosque and St. Nicholas Cathedral. It stretches along the sea in the Yevpatoria Bay, which used to be called the Kalamitskaya Bay. Valentina Tereshkova Embankment is located on the sea, but people don`t swim here, because there is a commercial port nearby in this bay.
The Karaev Garden is sometimes called the Karaev Park, although it occupies only a narrow section in the Old Town of Yevpatoria between Revolution Street and the seashore. There is a monument to David Karaev in the southern part of the garden. He was a revolutionary and was preparing the establishment of Soviet power in Yevpatoria, but he was killed in 1918. In the Northern part of the garden there is a bust of Emperor Nicholas II.
In the center of the Karaev Garden there is a Ferris Wheel, which offers a beautiful view of the Old Town of Yevpatoria with the domes of the Juma-Jami Mosque and St. Nicholas Cathedral. The Yevpatoria Bay is also visible from the wheel. It was the main port of the Crimean Khanate when the Turks conquered Crimea in 1475.
Until the end of the 20th century, the port of Yevpatoria remained the largest port of Crimea, but now the number of cargo ships has sharply decreased. The port is visible from the Tereshkova embankment; it is located southwest of the Karaev Garden.
The main Beaches of Yevpatoria are located to the west, outside the Yevpatoria Bay, where the sea is cleaner. There is a pebble beach near the Karaev Garden. However, it is not recommended to swim here because of construction debris in the sea and not very clean water.
