Klichen Island is located north of the town of Ostashkov. It is connected to the city by a bridge, so tourists who want to see the beautiful nature of Seliger do not have to sail to distant islands. It is enough to come to the City beach of Ostashkov, and from there walk along the ecological trails in the protected area of the Island of Klichen.
The territory of the island of Klichen is 88 hectares and it has the shape of a three-pointed star. Seliger is of glacial origin. There are about 160 islands along its rugged coastline. Klichen is the third largest island of Seliger, after Khachin Island and Gorodomlya Island. In 1982, its territory was declared a protected natural park.
You can see the beautiful nature of the island of Klichen right next to the bridge that connects it with the city of Ostashkov. There are beautiful bays and channels overgrown with reeds, small sandy beaches. There are always a lot of fishermen in this place.
At the beginning of the trail on the Island of Klichen is Popova Mount. It is overgrown with dense deciduous forest and looks like a small hill from the path. In Soviet times, archaeologists conducted excavations here and found stone tools of the Neolithic era in the settlement of ancient people. Chronicles have also been preserved that several centuries ago there was a monastery here. To this day, no evidence of human activity on the island of Klichen has been preserved. Now there are only paths for walking among the protected forest.
If you go to the right (eastern) tip of the star of the island of Klichen, then there you will see magnificent sandy beaches among thickets of reeds. Ostashkov residents and tourists usually relax and swim on the City Beach, but some come to the beaches of Klichen to relax among the protected nature in the pine forest. The distance between these beaches is 1.7 kilometers.
Pine trees grow on the eastern part of the island of Klichen. Here they have reached quite large sizes. In the western part of the island there are spruce and mixed forest areas. The pine forest in the center of the island is very dense, so the trees here are much thinner and they grow more often. In the eastern part of the island of Klichen there is a small but very picturesque Inland Lake.
