This street is far from the center of Tomsk where the main sights of the city are concentrated. It is desirable to go the street on foot as there you can see the houses with both simple and elaborate decorative elements.
The most beautiful wooden houses are between Kartashov street and Nechayevskiy lane. And it is just there that the best-known wooden houses of Tomsk are located: the house with a tent, the house with dragons, and the former houses of the merchant Zhelyabo.
The house with a tent (#71) is the former house of the merchant G. M. Golovanov. It was designed by an architect S. V. Khomich in 1902. The house has distinctive features of the Russian folk architecture. And it is similar to the house on 19, Belinskiy St.
The «house with dragons» is on 68, Krasnoarmeyskaya St. It was the house of a teacher B. A. Bystrzhitsky. It was built by the design of an architect V. F. Orzheshko in 1917. The profile of the house was complicated and a corner tower with a tented roof was added. The roof apexes are crowned with the stylized horse heads.
The estate of Zhelyabo consisting of four houses is of a particular interest on Krasnoarmeyskaya street. The main house is called the «house with fire-birds». All houses have very beautiful carved window surrounds and cornices.
