In front of the entrance to the Tarkhany estate near the Penza-Tambov highway is a large building of the Mikhail Lermontov Museum. This center is the largest scientific and educational center of Lermontov. Its employees are engaged in the study of Lermontov`s work.

In the Lermontov Museum you can see portraits of all the people who were close to Mikhail Lermontov, his parents, grandmother and friends. There are also engravings and lithographs depicting the noble life of the early 19th century.

Mikhail Lermontov started painting quite early. In the Museum you can see his children`s drawings, as well as works when he served in the Caucasus. In general, the theme of the Caucasus and the customs of the Caucasian peoples is one of the Central themes in Lermontov`s work. He drew many drawings and paintings with views of the Caucasus mountains, as well as with mountaineers in national costumes.

It also contains books and works by Lermontov that were published during the poet`s lifetime, as well as after his death. Many famous artists, such as Repin, Vrubel, Korovin, drew illustrations for them.

Next to the Lermontov Museum are the Miller`s House and a 19th-century Windmill. The Miller`s house recreates the life of a peasant family of the 19th century. Visitors can go inside the mill to view the mechanisms. Sometimes in windy weather, the mill is open and flour is ground on it.
