Mount Ryzhokha is one of the most interesting sights on the Great Valdai Trail. Ryzhokha cannot be called a mountain in the usual sense of the word, but its height is 297 meters above sea level and Ryzhokha is the highest point of the Valdai National Park.
Mount Ryzhokha is located 3 kilometers northwest of Lake Velje. In summer, many tourists come to its shores to relax in nature and go fishing. Also, the most famous trekking route in the territory of the Valdai National Park, the Great Valdai Trail, is laid near Mount Ryzhokha.
As you approach Mount Ryzhokha, there is a fairly noticeable rise on the trail, although it does not pose a problem even for children. A metal tower has been built on the top for tourists who walk along the Great Valdai Trail. Its height reaches 25 meters, which exceeds the tallest fir trees that surround it. You can climb this tower to view the vast forest expanses of the Valdai National Park. Lakes Ukleino and Velje are visible from the tower.
If you do not have the opportunity to hike along the Great Valdai trail, then the easiest way to go to Mount Ryzhokhe is from the village of Myslovichi. It is located 40 km south of the city of Valdai, near the northern shore of Lake Velje. The village can be reached by a high-quality asphalt road.
800 meters from the village there is one of the equipped camp area of the Valdai Trail near Lake Mokhovoe. If you walk a few hundred meters further, you will see a Bridge over the beaver dam. The dam itself is no longer there, but the place is very picturesque.
If you go even further, you will reach the tower at the top of Mount Ryzhokha. The distance from the village of Myslovichi to Mount Ryzhokha is 3.2 kilometers. Thus, the walk to Ryzhokha and back will be 6.5 kilometers. If you do not want to walk, then you can use the forest dirt roads to get to the village of Zaborovye, and then to the village of Ryzhokha. However, the quality of this forest road is very low and not every car will pass there.
