All beach resorts of Russia are located on the Black Sea coast and along it stretches a strip of high Caucasian mountains, so swimming on the beaches can be combined with trekking in the mountains.
Sochi is the capital of the resort area in the Caucasus. Its districts, Lazarevskoye, Dagomys and Adler, stretch for tens of kilometers to the border with Abkhazia. In Sochi tourists are offered a lot of excursions in that direction – to Lake Ritsa and New Athos. Around Sochi, you can visit many natural sights, which are part of the Caucasian Biosphere Reserve.
On the Black Sea coast a continuous line of resort towns stretch to the west of Sochi. The include the towns of Gelendzhik, Tuapse, Dzhugba and Anapa. All of them are filled with tourists during the resort season. The Crimean peninsula is to the west of Anapa. There are a lot of beach resorts and natural sights in the Crimea.
There are also many beautiful natural sights on the northern side of the Caucasus Mountains, opposite the Black Sea. Dombay and Elbrus ski resorts are located there. Dombay is hidden among the picturesque mountain peaks at the intersection of three mountain valleys, and Elbrus is the highest mountain in Europe.
In North Ossetia there are very beautiful mountain valleys – Tseiskaya, Karmadonskaya, Fiagdonskaya. There are also many beautiful natural sights, mountain gorges and peaks and waterfalls in the mountain regions of Kabardino-Balkaria, Ingushetia and Chechnya.
You can see very interesting natural sights in Adygea, on the northern slope of the Caucasus Mountains. Theн include a picturesque Guam gorge, Hadzhoskohskoj gorge, mountain areas in the area of Guzeripl village, which are known as the Stone Sea. However, the most interesting place is the Granite Canyon of the Belaya (White) River. The river has cut a narrow channel among granite rocks.
