Ostashkov City Beach is located on the narrow Zhitnoye Peninsula in the northernmost part of the city. Thanks to this beach, Ostashkov can be considered as a vacation spot on Lake Seliger. The peninsula is connected by a bridge to the Island of Klichen, where there are beautiful hiking trails through the protected nature of the lake.
The Zhitnoye Peninsula stretches for 700 meters from the northern outskirts of Ostashkov to the island of Klichen. Previously, the island of Klichen was quite far from Ostashkov and it was necessary to sail to it by boat. In Soviet times, a dam was built between them, leaving only a narrow strait. A bridge was built over the strait. Now you can walk to the Island of Klichen at any time.
Ostashkov City Beach is located on the western shore of the Zhitnoye Peninsula and is sometimes called "Zhitnoye Beach". It is covered with magnificent white sand. The length of the beach is 400 meters, although the most popular wide part of the beach is much shorter. Trees grow near the beach, where you can hide in the summer heat.
Near the beach there is a female Bogoroditsky monastery. It was founded in 1716, but closed by the Bolsheviks in 1920. In 2002, the monastery was revived and now there is an active construction of temples.
If you have a desire to see the beautiful nature of Lake Seliger, then from the City Beach you can walk along the trekking trails of the island of Klichen. The car must be left in the parking lot near the beach, as further driving is prohibited. A pine forest grows on the Island of Klichen. On the eastern shore there are several sandy beaches among pine trees. The distance from the City beach of Ostashkov to the beaches on Klichen is 1.7 kilometers.
