The Salt Lake is located on the southern edge of Larnaca, in close proximity to the International Airport. It is separated from the sea by a narrow isthmus. Along the western part of the lake, there are walking paths, so you can walk along the shore. There are also walking paths in the area of the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque on the south-eastern bank.

The Salt Lake in Larnaca is called Aliki. It is known that flocks of pink flamingos arrive here in late autumn. They live here in the winter and fly away in the spring. In winter, the lake is filled with water, but in spring it begins to dry up. By summer, it looks like the Dead sea. The lake shore is covered with a dense salt crust.

There are interesting sights on the south-eastern shore of the Salt lake. In the 18th century, the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque was built on the grave of a pious Umm Haram woman. According to Muslim lore, Umm Haram was the closest relative of the prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam. She arrived in Cyprus with her husband, the Caliph Moawiyah, but fell off her mule and crashed. The Hala Sultan Tekke mosque is very revered by all Muslims.

Next to the mosque, you can see the excavations of an ancient settlement that existed here several millennia ago. On the north side of the Salt lake is located the Kamares aqueduct. There is a small Kamares Park in front of it.
