Larnaca castle is located on the Finikoudes promenade in the historical center of the city. Nearby is located the Shrine of Larnaca - the Church of St. Lazarus. The size of Larnaca castle is small. It looks like a Fort. Inside there is a Museum that will be interesting to all tourists.

The first fortifications to protect the port of Larnaca appeared in the 14th century under king James I of the Lusignan dynasty. This family was founded by the Crusader Hugo de Lusignan. They began to rule Cyprus in 1192. The castle was fortified during the Venetian rule. Under them, it served not only as a defensive function, but also as a trading port.

In 1571, the Turks captured Cyprus. During the capture of the island, the castle of Larnaca was destroyed. In 1625, by order of the Turkish ruler of Cyprus, a fortified Fort was built on the site of the destroyed Larnaca castle. It was also called a castle, but it was much smaller.

The Larnaca castle Museum includes viewing platforms on the fortress wall. Medieval cannons are installed there. In the center of the courtyard, there is a stage and chairs for concerts and various events.

In 4 rooms of the second floor of the castle there is an exhibition dedicated to the history of Larnaca, from ancient times to this day. The castle has preserved rooms that were a prison, and in one of the rooms even executions by hanging were carried out.
