After a visit to the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery it will be very desir-able to go to the Skete of Saint Savva. It is about a kilometer from the entrance to the monastery if you continue to move off from the river.

The monk Savva spent most of its time at the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius. And even though Savva was a disciple of Sergius of Radonezh, it is known that he was chosen the spiritual counsellor of the Trinity monks, including Sergius of Radonezh himself, and after his death he became the hegumen of the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius.

In 1398 Prince Yuri asked the monk Savva to establish a monastery on the Storozhi Hill. After that it was called Savvino-Storozhevsky. But later St. Savva began to lead a secluded life and dug a small cave in a kilometer from the monastery. That was the skit of St. Savva.

The today churches and buildings of the skit of St. Savva date back to 1860. The church of St. Savva, the monk’s building, the gate-house and strong walls with towers appeared about that time. Since the skit is operational you can`t enter it but you can enter the cave of St. Savva. It is on the opposite side of the gates of the skit.

A small river Storozhka flows at the foot of the hill with the skit. There are several holy springs near the skit. A big font for men and women was built above the springs. You can also take the holy water for drink-ing.
