The city of Yeysk is the main beach resort on the Sea of Azov. Hundreds of thousands of people come here every year, although swimming at the sea here has some specifics. The beaches of Yeysk have a sandy surface, but the Sea of Azov is very shallow, so you need to go a few tens of meters from the shore to swim.
Despite there are many resorts on the Black Sea nearby, Yeysk is popular among young people. This is partly due to the possibilities of a low budget holiday, but to a greater extent the popularity of Yeysk is explained by the possibilities of windsurfing and kitesurfing. The Yeysk Spit extends 3 kilometers into the sea, so there is almost always a good wind here. There are no waves in the Yeysk Estuary, so beginners train there. Experienced surfers ride in the Sea of Azov, where the waves are higher. In recent years, riding on SUPs became very popular.
Many hotels and guest houses are specialized for receiving tourists with young children. In this case, the shallow sea becomes not a disadvantage, but an advantage. Adults need to walk tens of meters to swim, and for children such a gently sloping entrance is not a problem. On the beach, they can mess around in the sand, build sand castles and sunbathe. The shallow sea warms up very quickly, so the water temperature comfortable for children begins here in June.
The city of Yeysk is located on the shore of the Taganrog Bay, 180 kilometers from Rostov-on-Don. On the opposite shore of the bay is the city of Taganrog, the birthplace of the great Russian writer Anton Chekhov. Taganrog was founded by Peter I in 1698, and it became the main port on the Sea of Azov. Yeysk was founded much later, in 1848. It has also become a port city, but now it is better known as a beach resort.
Yeysk is located at the base of the Yeysk sand spit, it is the main natural attraction of the resort. On the western side of the spit is the Sea of Azov, and on the eastern side is the Yeysk Estuary. The beach infrastructure, hotels and cafes are located on the very edge of the sand spit. Closer to the base of the spit from the Sea of Azov is the territory of the Yeysk port and beyond it, on the wide part of the spit, there are residential quarters of the city of Yeysk.
Vacationers prefer to swim in the Sea of Azov, as the Yeysk estuary is too shallow. The water in it has a light brown color. On the side of the Yeysk estuary on the edge of the spit is the Tortuga beach. On the side of the Sea of Azov on the edge of the spit there is a Youth beach, and closer to the port there is a large sandy Central beach. In some places of these beaches, the sea is deepened, so there is no need to go tens of meters into the sea to swim.
At the base of the spit (south of the Yeysk port) is the Seaside Embankment. It stretches on a high slope, 50 meters above the sea shore. There is a beach area at the foot of the embankment. There are three beaches here: Kamenka, Vista and Melaki beach for children. A park area has been created in the central part of the embankment, where there is a Ferris wheel. There is also a Dolphinarium and an Oceanarium on the embankment.
Ivan Poddubny Park is located in the central part of the city on an area of 20 hectares. This is the largest park in the city. There are children`s attractions, children`s playgrounds, walking alleys, a zoo, several cafes. Near the entrance to the park there is a Museum of Ivan Poddubny, the great Russian wrestler. He was born in 1871 in the Poltava province, but has lived in Yeysk for the last 22 years. His grave is located near the Museum in Poddubny Park. Yeysk residents honor their great countryman very much.
