The beautiful house on King Ferdinand IV square is called Casa d`Amore. This is the first Trullo that was built using mortar in 1797. This year Alberobello received the status of a free city.

Before obtaining official city status, all houses in Alberobello were built using the ancient technology of dry masonry without mortar. The stones were placed in a circle and held by their weight. A domed roof was erected over them. Before the visit of the Royal inspectors, it could easily be destroyed. It was made by order of count Aquaviva, who did not want to pay taxes for the house.

Casa d`Amore has two floors and a small balcony, which is very unusual for Trullo technology. The house, built with cement mortar, is a symbol of the liberation of the residents of Alberobello from the fear that before the visit of inspectors they will again have to destroy their homes. On the wall of the house, there is a plate on which it is written: Ex auctoritate regia-hoc primum erectum a. d. 1797. In Latin, it means: "This house is the first built with the permission of the King in 1797."
