The Dead City is formed by the remains of rocks, some of which resemble figures of people and animals. The geographical name of the Dead City is the Khoba-Tepe Ridge. Here was the main crater of the Karadag volcano during its eruption about 150 million years ago.

The best traces of the eruption and lava fields are visible from the sea. Just above sea level, the famous "Ear of Karadag" is visible. This is part of the crater of the volcano, where the stones are stacked in the form of an oval. The height of the rocks of the Dead City reaches 440 meters.

The main attraction of the Dead City in Karadag Nature Reserve is the Gingerbread Horse. This is a small stone in the form of a horse. Many tourists try to ride it for photo shoots. Next to it is a small stone, similar to a medieval nobleman. If you go closer to the sea, you can see many more rocky formations that look like people.

In the Dead City, the Lighthouse Rock rises out of the water. Nearby there is a Magnetic Ridge, where the Teeth of the Lagorio Ridge are visible. They are very similar to the teeth on the back of a dragon, which descend from the top of the mountain to the sea. These teeth were named after the Russian geographer Alexander Lagorio, who was engaged in the study of Karadag. Nearby there is a small Rock Sail and the Bay of Barakhta.

There is a pebble beach at the foot of the Dead City in the Border Bay. From the south it is bounded by Ivan the Robber Rock, and from the north by a small Lion Rock, which looks more like a turtle. Previously, tourists were brought to this beach from Koktebel, who could swim right in front of the famous Golden Gate
