The country has always attracted a great number of tourists. And the word «Paris» still recalls hundreds of associations. No one could be indifferent to Paris which is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. However, Paris isn’t the whole France. You can find curious historical and natural sites in every corner of this country.
Two events of French history had significantly influenced the entire European civilization, namely the French revolution and subsequent Napoleonic period. All European countries were somehow affected by these great events.
So, Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Unfortunately, Paris has not preserved its medieval appearance due to large-scale reconstruction undertaken by Georges Eugene baron Haussmann in the sixties of the 19th century, though, undoubtedly, it lent it certain imperial grandeur. However, Paris is abundant with various historical sites, such as Notre Dame de Paris, Louvre, Champs Elysees and the Eiffel Tower, – historical sites known even by those who have never been to Paris.
Versailles located not far from Paris is the symbol of gorgeous French monarchy. And you should visit this huge palace and its adjacent park.
Those who are interested in castles, palaces and monasteries could find something to see in France. On the bank of Luara, near the cities of Blois, Orleans and Tours, there are a number of medieval castles, including famous Chambord and Chenonceau. In the immediate vicinity of Paris there is one of the main French churches, Saint Denis Abbaye.
The most interesting southern cities are Carcassonne and Avignon. The former has the strongest medieval fortress, and the latter – the whole historical complex, built in the time of Avignonese captivity of popes.
Near Saint-Malo (Normandy) you can visit the famous Saint Michel Monastery. It is a splendid historical and natural monument which is always full of tourists wanting to climb its picturesque mountain.
France has a very beautiful nature. The French Riviera also called the Côte d`Azur is one of the most attractive and costly resort areas of Europe which has not only good beaches but also a peculiar aristocratic atmosphere. Also, you can get browned on Belle-Ile-en-Mer in Bretagne, only in July and August.
In winter you can spend your vacations at some skiing resort in the Alpine Mountains in the south-east of the country. Around Montblanc, which is the highest mountain in Europe, there are many tourist paths, letting you to enjoy fresh air and mountain landscapes.
