The Holy Mountain has a domed shape and is completely covered with forest. The height of Holy Mountain is 576 meters. This is the highest point of the Karadag Nature Reserve. Because of the dense forest there are no viewing points, so people rarely come here.
Holy Mountain consists of volcanic ash formed during the eruption of the Karadag volcano about 150 million years ago. Excursions to Holy Mountain are not conducted, although a path is laid there from the side of Koktebel. Free access to the territory of the Karadag Reserve from Koktebel is closed.
On the north-western slope of Holy Mountain there is a small mountain range, which is called the Small Karadag. There are several megalithic stones on the top of Holy Mountain. According to the chronicles, these stones used to stand in the form of an ancient sanctuary, but now they are scattered in different sides.
