The monumental mountains on the Katu-Yaryk pass are striking in their beauty. We can say with full confidence that the views from the upper viewpoint of the pass are among the most beautiful in the Altay Mountains

The Katu-Yaryk mountain pass connects the Ulagan Highlands with the Chulyshman River Valley. The length of the mountain serpentine descending the mountain slope is almost 4 kilometers. The height difference reaches 900 meters.

The slope of the mountain reaches 70 degrees, and the road on the serpentine goes at an angle of 10 degrees. Especially steep is the first of the 9 turns of the serpentine. The road on the serpentine has a dirt surface, which makes it difficult (although possible) to climb for cars without 4х4 drive. After the rain, it is extremely difficult to climb the pass by car without all-wheel drive. However, at the bottom, you can usually order the service of lifting your car, on a cable behind the truck.

The main attraction of the pass is a rocky ridge in the upper part of the pass, which stretches along the cliff for three hundred meters. It is an observation deck with spectacular views of the narrow valley of the Chulyshman River.

The section of the Chulyshman valley from the Katu-Yaryk pass to the Akkurum site is the most developed for tourists ` recreation. People come here to visit the Stone Mushrooms, the Gorge of the Chulcha River and the Uchar waterfall. There is no road to the upper reaches of the Chulyshman River from the Katu-Yaryk pass. There are only small trails here. In the upper reaches of the Chulyshman River there are the most difficult rapids for rafting, but you need to go to them on a dirt road through the village of Yazula
