Shopping mall Street in Arzamas is one of the old and picturesque streets of the city. Located in the very center of Arzamas, the street is an important part of the architectural and cultural heritage of this merchant town. In 2022, a reconstruction was carried out here, restoring the street to its 19th-century historical appearance.
In 1779, Empress Catherine II declared Arzamas a district town, and in 1782, a general plan for the city was adopted. According to this plan, Shopping mall street was designed. The street is not very long—280 meters—and stretches along the slope of a hill. All the houses are built at different levels, making the street very picturesque.
Initially, wooden houses stood on this street, but in 1824, a devastating fire occurred. After that, stone houses were built on Shopping mall street, and they have survived to this day. In the 19th century, Shopping mall street was a hub of active trade, with shops and stores where local merchants offered their goods. In 1824, in the lower part of Shopping mall street, local merchants Podsosovs, built a large two-story hotel. It has survived to the present day.
The architecture of Shopping mall reflects the style of the 19th century: here, you can see buildings constructed with a unified facade but at different levels. Characteristic decorative elements of that time have been restored on all the houses—carved window frames, wrought iron details, and stone masonry. All the shops feature signs made in the 19th-century style. The historical appearance of the buildings on neighboring streets has also been restored.
