The Shtangeyev trail in the Yalta Nature Reserve is one of the most popular hiking routes in the Crimean Mountains. It starts near the Uchan-Su Waterfall and goes to the top of Stavri-Kaya Mountain. The Shtangeyev trail is quite easy even for children, so many tourists come here every day.

In Yalta there are two Health Trails: Botkin and Shtangeyev, which are recommended by doctors for hiking. They start in different places, but converge at a single point – at the top of Stavri-Kaya Mount (663 meters). The length of the Shtangeyev trail is 2.6 km, the climb is 230 meters. The length of the Botkin trail is 4.5 km, the climb is 510 meters. Most often, tourists prefer to start climbing Stavri-Kaya Mountain on one trail, and descend on another path. In this case, you will need to walk 7 kilometers, but the landscapes will not be repeated.

The Shtangeyev trail is named after the famous doctor Fyodor Shtangeyev from Yalta. He was engaged in the treatment of tuberculosis and other lung diseases. Shtangeyev, as well as Sergey Botkin, paid much attention to the study of the beneficial effects of the climate of the Southern Coast of Crimea on human health.  In these places, the phytoncides of the coniferous forest are mixed with the sea breeze, which creates a positive effect for the treatment of lung diseases.

The Shtangeyev trail was created in 1901-1903, simultaneously with the Botkin Trail, by members of the Crimean Mountain Club. The trail passes at the foot of a rocky mountain range. In one place it is literally cut through the vertical slope of the mountain. The views of the Crimean Mountains of the Yalta Reserve, which open from the Shtangeyev trail, are more picturesque than on the Botkin trail.

The Shtangeyev trail begins near the restaurant Uchan-Su. There is a road nearby that leads from Yalta to Bakhchisarai. Uchan-Su Waterfall is located 200 meters from the restaurant. A path leads to its foot through a relict forest, where the trees are covered with moss and lianas. The height of the waterfall is 98 meters, it is the highest waterfall in the Crimea. If you plan to finish your walk on the Botkin Trail, then at the end you can see the Yalta Zoo and the Glade of Fairy Tales children`s park.
