The Armenian Church of the Holy Savior is located in the historical center of Derbent, near Freedom Square. In the 19th century, there was an Armenian quarter on this place. His community decided to erect a majestic temple in the traditional Armenian architectural style.

The Armenian church was built in 1870 by architect Gabriel Sundukyan. It has a cross-domed structure typical of Byzantine churches. The dimensions of the interior are 22x17 meters.

During the Civil War, the headquarters of General Denikin was located in the Church of the Holy Savior. Because of this, the church was severely damaged during the shelling. In Soviet times, it was completely restored, but it was not returned to the Armenian clergy. The temple was recognized as an Architectural Monument of Dagestan.

Since 1982, the Armenian Church of the Holy Savior has housed a Museum of Carpets and Decorative and Applied Arts. The space of the church is divided into 5 halls. Here you can see authentic carpets from different regions of Dagestan. Many of these carpets are made in the 19th century. In addition to carpets, there are large collections of ceramics, wood and silver products.
