The Karadag History and Nature Museum is located on the territory of the Karadag Biostation in the village of Kurortnoye. It was founded by Professor Vyazemsky in 1901 and in 1914 began work as a scientific organization for the study of nature, the sea and geology based on the findings that were made on the ancient volcano Karadag.

The Karadag Museum of History and Nature was established in 1915 as a visible display of the work of the scientific team of the Karadag Biostation. Here you can see the most interesting artifacts that archaeologists and paleontologists found during the study of the ancient Karadag volcano. This volcano is of great interest to scientists who are studying the ecosystem of the ancient Tethys Ocean.

In the Jurassic period of the Mesozoic era, about 150 million years ago, these lands were covered by the waters of the ancient ocean Tethys. The photo shows that the ocean waters covered the entire Caspian lowland. The regions of Crimea and the Caucasus were also under water, but the Crimean and Caucasian Mountains towered over the waters of the Tethys Ocean.

The eruption of Karadag occurred about 150 million years ago. At that time, the planet was inhabited by dinosaurs. Karadag is located in the foothills of the Crimean Mountains. At the beginning of the eruption, the volcano was under water, but as the lava fields of the volcano formed, it may have begun to rise above the water.

The shore of the ancient Tethys Ocean, which washed the Crimean Mountains, was located nearby, near the Sudak resort. In the area of the resorts Sudak and Novy Svet there were coral reefs of the ocean. Subsequently, reef mountains were formed from them. The highest mountains of this type are Mount Sokol in the Novy Svet, as well as the Fortress Mountain in Sudak, where the Genoese fortress was built.

In the Karadag Museum of History and Nature you can see an interesting collection of stones that reflect the process of geological formation of the ecosystem on the surface of the Karadag volcano, as well as in the coastal zone after the eruption. In an accessible form, the Karadag Museum also presents scientific research done by scientists. There are a lot of photos, pictures, drawings. A separate exposition of the museum is dedicated to the flora and fauna of Karadag.
