The village of Novy Svet is one of the most beautiful beach resorts in the Crimea. It is located 7 kilometers from Sudak in a cozy Green bay surrounded by high reef mountains that protect the village from cold winds. The climate here is very comfortable, and the water temperature is always higher than in the surrounding resorts.
The village in a small bay near the town of Sudak appeared in the Middle Ages, when the Genoese owned Crimea. At that time, Sudak was one of the largest cities of the peninsula, where a powerful Genoese Fortress towered. Novy Svet remained a small fishing village until the middle of the 19th century. Then it was called Paradise for the beauty of the local nature.
In 1878, the village of Paradise was acquired by Duke Lev Golitsyn, who studied winemaking in Europe and decided to create his own Champagne winery in the Crimea. This changed the appearance of the resort, winemakers from all over the country began to come here. By 1896, Duke Golitsyn had achieved such high mastery in winemaking that his champagne wine "Coronation" was served at the ceremonial events on the occasion of the coronation of Emperor Nicholas II in 1896. He also earned the title of "supplier of His Imperial Majesty`s Court".
If you are vacationing in Novy Svet, then in the village itself it will be interesting for you to visit the Novy Svet Champagne Winery with an excursion, as well as the House-Museum of Duke Golitsyn. Here you can get acquainted with the history of winemaking in the Crimea, as well as taste the local sparkling wine. In the evening, take a walk along the Embankment of Novy Svet, where there are many different cafes. However, the most interesting natural attractions of Novy Svet are located outside.
Novy Svet is known for its three beautiful bays. They are called: Green, Blue and Azure. All of them are surrounded by rocks, which are the fossilized coral reefs of the ancient Tethys Ocean. Its waters covered these lands in the Mesozoic era, about 200 million years ago.
From the north, Mount Sokol rises above the resort of Novy Svet. It has a pyramidal shape and is recognized as the largest reef mountain in the Crimea. To the south of the resort there are three more reef mountains: Koba-Kaya, Cape Kapchik and Karaul-Oba.
Green Bay is located between the Sokol and Koba-Kaya Mountains. This is the largest bay where the village is located. Its water really has an emerald shade. On the western side of the Embankment, the Golitsyn Trail begins - this is the main attraction of Novy Svet. The length of the route is 1.5 kilometers.
The Golitsyn Trail begins in the Green Bay and then runs along the Blue and Azure Bay. In the depths of the Koba-Kaya Mountain you will see the Chaliapin Grotto, which is also called the Golitsyn Grotto. Then you need to go further to the Blue Bay at Cape Kapchik. There is a beach where you can swim.
Cape Kapchik is very similar to a dolphin. Climb it to see a beautiful view of the Azure Bay, the Royal Beach and Mount Karaul-Oba. Access to Royal Beach from the Golitsyn Trail is complicated due to the stone blockage, but everyone passes through the relict Juniper Grove to it.
Relict Juniper Grove is another wonderful attraction of the Novy Svet resort. It is located on a highland between the Koba-Kaya and Karaul-Oba mountains. Here you will see juniper trees that are more than several hundred years old, and the trunks are curled spirals around their axis. It is not necessary to go to the Juniper Grove along the Golitsyn Trail, you can come here from the village. The path to the grove begins near the Champagne Winery.
Beyond the Juniper Grove there is another wonderful tourist route to the Valleys of Heaven and Hell, as well as to the Cosmos Peak. They are on Mount Karaul-Both. The Valley of Hell looks the most beautiful. Here you will see bizarre piles of rocks on the seashore and ancient juniper trees growing directly from the stones.
