On the road to the village Sholokhovo leading to the the Saviour Church on Nereditsa on the shore of the Lake Myachino you can see the Church of Our Saviour on Kovalevo, an interesting architectural monument of the 14 century.
Its full name is the Church of the Transfiguration of Our Saviour on Kovalevo Field. In the late Middle Ages there was a monastery here, and a Novgorod boyar named Ontsifor Zhabin decided to build the Church of the Transfiguration of Our Saviour in the field. The burial vault of the Zhabin family is in the southern annex of the church.
During the last war the Church of Our Saviour on Kovalevo was damaged as well as the Saviour Church on Nereditsa. The church located on the bank of the river Volkhov was a target for German gunners who wanted to destroy all points of fire adjustment. As a result, the church was razed almost to the ground. Its restoration was begun in 1965. Now the frescoes of the Church of Our Saviour on Kovalevo are on the permanent display at the Yaroslav`s Court.
