Hydyrlyk Tower is on the edge of a high rock in the northern part of Karaalioglu Park. It was built in II century by the ancient Romans in the period of the highest prosperity of Antalya. Hadrian`s Gate, the second building of the Roman period in Antalya, also was built about that time.
Hydyrlyk Tower has a very massive square foundation, which was laid down even earlier. A round tower was built on the foundation. The total height of the structure reaches 14 meters.
Experts agree that the main purpose of such a massive tower could be the defense of the port. The tower is above the entrance to the port. The tower also could be used as a lighthouse. You can ascend onto the observation deck of the tower to admire the views of the old port and Kaleici.
