The fortress walls of antic Side were built by Greek settlers in II century B.C. The main entrance to the city is the strong Northern Gate of which only ruins survived to our days. The fortifications are now in the best condition on the side of mainland, while on the side of the sea one can see only small pieces of the once strong fortifications.

To see the fortifications of Side you should go to the Agora. Also, there remained several interesting fragments of the walls near the former Northern Gate. This is where you can get an idea of the power of the fortifications of the ancient city. Walking along the embankment, in many places you can also see the ruins of the fortress walls.
