The mansion of Lazhechnikov is just opposite the tall four-tier Church of John the Evangelist in the central square of the city. It is a large two-floor house where one can see the in-terior of a nobleman mansion of 19 century.

Ivan Lazhechnikov was born in Krivyakino, a village located not far from Kolomna, in 1792. His father was one of the richest merchants of Kolomna. In Kolomna he also had a mansion where the future writer spent his childhood and youth.

Ivan Lazhechnikov received a very good education and was a director of various specialized schools. And when he retired in 1826, he decided to devote himself to literature. So he was one of the originators of the Russian historical novel, being the author of such well-known historical novels as «Last Novik», «The House of Ice» and «The Infidel».
