The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin is located near Shopping Mall in Kaluga. The first stone church appeared on this site in 1685, and in 1755 a new church was built in its place, which has survived to this day. The church is built in the classic terem style, traditional for Russian churches.

For centuries, near the church there was the main shopping area of Kaluga, the Old Torg square, with the chaotic construction of numerous shops. In 1784, Governor Krechetnikov demolished all the merchant shops that were located next to the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, and built a large Shopping Mall.

There is a small garden near the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin. There is a monument to Peter and Fevronia. In Soviet times, the temple was closed, and there was a cinema in it. Thanks to this, it was not destroyed. In the late 1990s, the church was returned to the church, but the reconstruction took more than 10 years. In 2004, divine services resumed in the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin of Kaluga.
