The viewing point Swallow’s Nests is located on the slope of Bald Mountain, on the eastern outskirts of Anapa. Residential development of the village of Supseh (a suburb of Anapa), is located in close proximity to Swallow’s nests. Here you can see beautiful views of the rocky coast of the Black Sea, as well as the residential quarters of Anapa.
Sometimes travel agencies call this place "Bald Mountain", although this is not quite correct. The top of Bald Mountain is 500 meters to the east and access to it is closed, since there is a military unit territory there.
You have to climb viewing point Swallow`s Nests through the local cemetery. However, this is not a big difficulty. You can park at the bottom of the mountain slope, and then climb 200 meters from the parking lot to the edge of the high seashore.
Approaching the seashore, you will see clay formations with holes of swallows` nests. When this place became popular among tourists, the swallows here no longer hatch their chicks. Under the influence of wind and rain, these clay rocks have become similar to the scenery of the movie "Star Wars".
The rocks where the viewing point Swallow`s Nest is located consist of marl. It is a sedimentary rock that visually resembles clay or chalk. In most of the mountains of the eastern part of the Caucasus range, marl rocks have a layered structure of three materials: dolomite, limestone and clay. These layers have different colors, depending on the composition. Sometimes there are "stone inserts" between the layers of marl, which are very clearly visible on Swallow’s nests. There are boulders in some layers of the mountain slope facing the sea. It seems that they are "inserted" into the mountainside artificially.
If you are vacationing in Anapa or in the Sukko village, then you definitely should come to the Swallow`s Nests. This is the best viewing point in the vicinity of Anapa. It is especially beautiful here at sunset, when the sun sets directly into the sea.
