The formal name of the museum is the State Pushkin Art Museum, but it is commonly called just the Pushkin Museum. It is located in the center of Moscow near the Temple of Christ the Savior. The museum has one of the largest Russian collections of world art
It is rather big, so you`d better first decide on what you would like to see there. In the central halls of the sculpture of the Ancient World (Greece, Rome, Persia) one can see a lot of interesting sculptures, but all of them are just replicas of the originals kept at the greatest museums of Europe.
However, there are also a lot of interesting originals at the Pushkin Museum. Of special in-terest can be very interesting collection of French impressionists: Renoir, C. Monet, Degas, Cezanne, as well as post-impressionists: Van Gogh, Picasso and Matisse. The museum has a fair number of pictures of these painters, and most of them are of great art value.
Besides seeing these pictures one should visit the halls where the Priam Treasure is exhibited, which was discovered by Henry Schliemann during the diggings on the site ancient Troy (near the hill of Hissarlik on the coast of the Marble Sea). At the exposition one can see gold jewels dating back to the period of 2.4 thousand years before Christ.
